Yuvraj Sandhu Slips Out of Top 20 After Costly Finish at Golf Catalunya Championship

Indian golfer Yuvraj Sandhu looked set for a strong climb up the leaderboard before a disappointing finish pulled him down to tied 46th after the third round of the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship in Spain on Sunday.

Sandhu carded an even par 72 in the third round to move to a total of 4 under par for the tournament. But the scorecard hardly reflected how promising his day looked midway through the round.

The Indian golfer began confidently and stayed in control through most of the front nine and early back nine. With four birdies and just one bogey in his first 10 holes , Sandhu appeared on course for a place inside the top 20 heading into the final round.

However, the momentum slipped away dramatically over the closing stretch.

A costly double bogey on the 15th hole , followed by another bogey on the 18th, saw Sandhu lose three shots in just four holes. The late stumble pushed him far down the leaderboard after what had otherwise been a composed and aggressive round.

Sandhu had opened the tournament brightly with an impressive 4 under 68 in the first round before managing an even par 72 on the second day. With the cut proving difficult for several players, he remained the lone Indian in contention after Shubhankar Sharma and Veer Ahlawat failed to make the weekend rounds.

At the top of the leaderboard, South Africa’s Yurav Premlall continued his dominant run. Premlall fired a sensational 9 under 63 , the best round of the day, to move to 19 under par overall and open up a commanding five shot lead ahead of the final round.

Despite the setback, Sandhu still has one more round left to finish the week strongly and regain momentum on the European circuit.
