Teacher Job Aspirants Clash With Police in Bihar Over Recruitment Delay

More than 5,000 teaching job aspirants were booked and four people arrested after clashes broke out between protesters and police during a march demanding the release of the BPSC TRE-4 recruitment notification in Patna, officials said on Saturday.

The protest, organised by aspirants preparing for the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE)-4 , turned violent on Friday when demonstrators allegedly tried to breach police barricades near key administrative areas of the state capital. Police said both protesters and security personnel sustained injuries during the confrontation, while traffic movement remained disrupted for several hours.

SP (City Central) Diksha said students became aggressive during the initial phase of the march, damaged barricades and clashed with police personnel. A case has been registered against over 5,000 unidentified protesters, while four named individuals have been arrested. Police are also examining video footage to identify others involved in the violence.

The protest was triggered by delays in notifying the TRE-4 examination, which is expected to fill more than 46,000 teaching vacancies across Bihar. Aspirants had anticipated the notification in April and have been staging demonstrations demanding clarity from the government.

Responding to the unrest, Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari assured students that the recruitment notification would be issued soon. He appealed to aspirants to raise their concerns in an organised manner and said he had requested the chief minister to treat the detained protesters “as students”.

“It is painful to see future teachers running on roads while being chased by police. We will soon find a solution to their problems,” the minister said.

Opposition parties criticised the government’s handling of the protest, accusing it of suppressing unemployed youth instead of addressing their demands for jobs.
