RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale on Sunday called upon young women to actively participate in the activities of the student organisation Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad , saying their involvement is essential for building a stronger student movement.

Addressing the “Priye Kelkar Ji” special recitation programme organised by the ABVP Delhi unit at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium, he highlighted the vision of ideologue Yashwantrao Kelkar , who strongly supported women’s participation and encouraged girl students to take up full time constructive roles in student organisations.

The programme was held as part of Kelkar’s birth centenary and focused on revisiting his ideas on student leadership and organisational discipline.

Hosabale said Kelkar had shaped the “philosophy of a student movement” , defining its ideological base and the thought process that should guide such organisations. He noted that ABVP functions through three key dimensions: constructive work, representative work, and agitational work .

Highlighting Kelkar’s leadership style, Hosabale said he believed in consensus building rather than imposing views. “He never forced his ideas but encouraged teamwork and dialogue,” he said.

He also recalled Kelkar’s strong emphasis on discipline and punctuality , noting his belief that “six o’clock means exactly six o’clock,” reflecting his strict organisational approach.

Hosabale said Kelkar worked closely with senior ABVP figures including Dattaji Didolkar, Bal Apte, and Madan Das Devi, and played a foundational role in shaping the organisation’s structure.

Quoting former RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras , he said Kelkar was described as a “true descendant” of Keshav Baliram Hedgewar , reflecting his deep commitment to organisational ideals.

He added that Kelkar’s ideas were not just theoretical but were practiced in real organisational life , making him a key figure in shaping the intellectual foundation of the student movement.

The programme, he said, helped young workers understand Kelkar’s thinking and the depth of training and discipline he brought into organisational work.
